Legendary Calypsonian Lord Invader sings of the Teddy Boys, those neo-Edwardian quasi-mods who were none-too-thrilled to behold the first waves of West Indians coming ashore in the Windrush generation….
This mixture of two worlds, West Indian and British, may be from a bygone era but it’s an integral part of what lies at the heart (and it’s quite the big warm fuzzy heart, when all is said and done) of Kwame’s Let There Be Love. Rehearsals start Monday (yes, for those following closely your math is correct: we’re just starting tech for Cyrano, previews start next week, we open in a week, and yet we’re diving right on in to the next production—not to mention the advance work Kristi is doing on Working It Out; this would chiefly account for the sad dearth of posts lately, including even updates on the frenzied rehearsal prep going on around here) and so here’s a little sample of what’s helping to inspire us as we get ready. Bombo! Bop to the beat!
